Welcome! Newest Additions to UBC Midwifery

Our team is growing, and we are excited to add two new instructional assistants to the team. They will be onboarding in the coming weeks and getting up to speed with the administrative work.

Marisa Ortiz (she/they) – Instructional Assistant

Hi everyone, my name is Marisa (she/they), and I’m a recent grad of UBC Science. I have a background in statistics and life sciences, and I previously worked for the UBC Equity & Inclusion Office. I have had a growing interest in midwifery for a long time, and I’m so excited to join your team and support this incredible program. I was raised with a mix of Dominican and American culture in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I’ve spent some time in the Netherlands, and now I’ve been in Canada for the past 6 years. I love talking about women’s sports, good restaurants, and pop culture. Excited to meet you all!

Isabela Caleffi – IEMBP Instructional Assistant

My name is Isabela Caleffi and I am Brazilian/Canadian. I have been living in Canada for 5 years with my family. My career began more than 13 years ago working as an Administrative Assistant in a hospital with cardiologists and obstetricians back in Brazil and assisting them with surgical equipment and small procedures. After that, I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Pedagogy and worked as a teacher for 10 years in public and private institutions. Upon arriving in Canada, I began my career in the Occupational Therapy department at UBC and recently joined the midwifery department as an Instructional Assistant.

We look forward to working with you both! Welcome to the team.
