International Confederation of Midwives 33rd ICM Triennial Congress – Bali, Indonesia

Faculty and staff were able to attend the first International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) since COVID. The theme for the 2023 Congress, Together Again: from Evidence to Reality. The UBC Midwifery booth was very busy! Many old and new connections were made, and important conversations about the profession and the international midwifery community were had.

Congratulations to Lorna McRae, and Drs. Cecilia Jevitt and Bill Rowe on the publication of their chapter, “Perinatal Substance Use Disorders,” in the 4th edition of The Oppression of Addiction. 

Drs. Jevitt and Rowe published the original chapter from the United States. Professor Emerita, Cathy Ellis works with the Canadian Association of Midwives on improving midwifery education in Somalia

Their diploma program curriculum was approved by the Somaliland government. Cathy and CAM representatives taught the curriculum to midwives and physicians in Somaliland in the fall. UBC Midwifery students and other faculty members assisted with research and curriculum development.
