UBC Midwifery REACT Revives IBPOC Student Mentorship Program

The UBC Midwifery Program’s Racial Equity in Action Committee (REACT) is reviving a mentorship program for racialized midwifery students.

Mentees:

IBPOC Students in the Midwifery Education Program seeking support from a midwifery mentor will be asked to complete a survey to prioritize their goals for the mentorship program.

Mentors:

Interested IBPOC midwives will be asked to complete a similar survey to be matched with a mentee in years 1–4 of the Midwifery Education Program.

There is an expectation of at least 3-5 hours of mentorship per academic term. This mentorship can occur in person or virtually, depending on the needs of the student/mentee.

Funding eligibility:(compensation)

Practicing midwives in British Columbia who are members of the MABC and are eligible for the MABC engagement funding will be able to apply for engagement funding to compensate them for this work. If you are not practicing or not eligible for MABC engagement funding, there is no alternative funding method currently.

If you could please fill out this form indicating your interest in the mentorship program, we will follow up with a survey in early 2026.

This work has been made possible through a UBC sTEAR Grant and the work of two dedicated midwifery students (Joean Lu and Azlina Tima).

Thank you for continuing to support UBC Midwifery!
