March 31 marks International Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV), a time to honour and celebrate the contributions, and lives, of the trans community. At UBC Midwifery, we recognize the importance of inclusivity and support for transgender individuals in all aspects of healthcare, including perinatal health and midwifery.
To commemorate TDOV 2025, the University of British Columbia is hosting several events:
- Raising of the Transgender Flag: The transgender flag will replace the UBC flag at both the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses on March 31, symbolizing the university’s commitment to trans visibility.
- Lighting of the Ladner Clock Tower: In Vancouver, the Ladner Clock Tower will be illuminated in the blue, pink, and white colours of the transgender flag, serving as a beacon of support and recognition.
- “In Loss, In Love, In Liberation” Vigil: Hosted by Trallard and UBC OutLaws, this vigil will take place on Monday, March 31, from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm at Allard Hall’s south entrance. Attendees are encouraged to bring items such as flowers, trans/queer flags, or candles to honour those lost to anti-trans violence.
We encourage you to participate in these events, demonstrating solidarity and support for trans individuals if you can. Engaging in these activities not only celebrates the resilience and achievements of the trans community but also fosters a more inclusive and compassionate environment within our university and the broader healthcare field. Holding and taking up space has real impact.

We also encourage you to explore the resource section on the event page linked above. These materials have been thoughtfully developed for both transgender individuals and those seeking to be stronger allies to trans communities.
