Recap: MMRC Speaker Series with Allison Campbell – Parenting Behind Bars
The McMaster Midwifery Research Centre (MMRC) Speaker Series recently featured Allison Campbell, RM, MA, in a compelling discussion on “Parenting Behind Bars: Maternal-Child (Connection and) Separation in BC’s Correctional Facilities Designated for Women.”
Drawing on her expertise in midwifery and social justice, Allison examined the history and current use of Mother-Child Programs in BC prisons, exploring their impact through the lens of reproductive justice and prison abolition. Her talk shed light on the challenges incarcerated parents face and the systemic barriers that shape their experiences.
