Policy and Procedure Statements
Preamble. The University of British Columbia’s (UBC) Midwifery Program (BMw) and its Internationally Educated Midwives Bridging Program (IEMBP) are jointly referred to as “UBC Midwifery” or the “Program”. UBC Midwifery follows all UBC regulatory requirements.
Background. Immunization requirements are in place to protect the student, clients and their families, for whom students provide care. Each student is responsible for ensuring their immunization review requirements are fulfilled prior to their entry into MIDW 200; the first clinical placement course in the program’s second year.
Please read the Post-Acceptance Requirements for Midwifery in the UBC Academic Calendar.
Policy
- All students enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine are required to meet the immunization standards established by the UBC Student Health Services (SHS). Students receive documentation outlining SHS immunization requirements on admission to the Midwifery Program. The SHS notifies the Midwifery Program once a student has completed the immunization protocol.
- The Midwifery Program cannot exempt a student from any immunization. All discussions regarding possible exemptions must be held with Student Health Services directly.
Non-Compliance with the Immunization Policy: Failure to comply with the Immunization Policy will result in a hold on the student’s account and they will not be permitted to be registered in any clinical course, until all non-academic requirements are met. This could cause a delay and any progression in the Program.
