Jane is a white European immigrant, who moved to BC in 2003.
Always interested in education, Jane started as a prenatal teacher with the National Childbirth Trust and, in that role, was also an advocate for users within the maternity services. After having her own children, she trained as a midwife, worked in the hospital and community in Surrey, UK, and then moved to Canada.
For 15 years Jane ran a midwifery practice in South Delta. In 2015, she joined UBC as the clinical placement coordinator, and in 2017, she took over as the Lead faculty for the Internationally Educated Midwives Bridging Program. She closed her midwifery practice in 2019 and now does locum work rurally and in Vancouver.
Currently, Jane is pursuing doctoral studies with the University of Central Lancashire. Her area of research is in supporting midwives in providing clinical care, especially when clients choose alternative care plans. Jane has run a 2 day international conference about breech birth and is a trainer and facilitator for the Midwives Emergency Skills Program. She has a special interest in supporting individualised care planning for clients, especially when choosing care outside of guidelines.
