Initiatives

The UBC Midwifery Program is dedicated to advancing the field of midwifery through dynamic and impactful initiatives. Our programs are designed to enhance education, foster research, and promote community engagement, reflecting our commitment to excellence in maternal and newborn health care.

Elaine Carty Visiting Scholars Initiative

Named in honor of Elaine Carty, a pioneer in midwifery education and the founding Director of the UBC Midwifery Program, this initiative brings esteemed clinicians and scholars from around the world to UBC. Visiting scholars engage with students, deliver seminars to faculty, and present public lectures, enriching our academic environment and fostering global collaboration.

REACT (Racial Equity Action Collective Committee)

REACT represents our commitment to addressing systemic inequities in healthcare and education. This collective works to promote racial equity within the midwifery profession through advocacy, education, and meaningful action. By fostering dialogue and implementing strategies that prioritize inclusion and justice, REACT helps ensure a more equitable future for all.

Equity and Wellbeing

Our Equity and Wellbeing initiative focuses on promoting inclusive practices within the midwifery profession. We are committed to creating a supportive environment that values diversity, ensures equitable access to care, and prioritizes the well-being of both practitioners and the families they serve.

Through these and other initiatives, the UBC Midwifery Program continues to lead in shaping the future of midwifery, upholding our dedication to innovation, inclusivity, and excellence in healthcare education.
