Global Placement Fund

PLEASE NOTE: This fund is currently on hold while the program is being redeveloped.

The Global Placement (Citizenship) Fund at UBC’s Midwifery Program enables students to participate in international clinical placements, particularly in countries like Uganda, where the maternal mortality rate is significantly higher than in Canada.

Each year, 8 to 12 midwifery students travel to Uganda for practicums, providing essential healthcare services and gaining invaluable experience in low-resource, cross-cultural settings.

Former faculty member Angela Spencer, who has travelled to Uganda five times, has arranged a planned gift to support this practicum program. Currently, students must cover their own flights and living expenses, which can be a deterrent. Spencer’s contribution aims to alleviate this financial burden, allowing more students to benefit from this transformative experience.

By donating to the Global Citizenship Fund, you support the education of future midwives and contribute to improving maternal and newborn health in underserved regions. Your generosity helps provide medical supplies, training equipment, and essential services to communities in need.
