In celebration of International Day of the Midwife (May 5), UBC Midwifery is sharing Crisis Snapshots, a micro interview series highlighting midwives’ critical role in times of crisis.
We asked two questions:
Midwives Are Essential to Crisis Response
- Have you provided care during a natural disaster, pandemic, or emergency? Tell us a moment that stands out.
Midwives Must be Heard
- What do you wish others understood about midwives in emergencies? Why must midwives be included in crisis response?
In these short, animated interviews, UBC faculty, clinical faculty and registered midwives share firsthand accounts of providing care during wildfires, pandemics, and natural disasters. These stories underscore midwives’ essential role in community resilience, emergency response, and reproductive justice.
