After completing a Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus in English Literature and an extended minor in Humanities, Blake completed a teaching certificate and spent the next 3 years in a variety of teaching roles at private schools in the greater Vancouver area. Prior to joining UBC midwifery, Blake was the Lead Instructor for the teacher training program at Western Town College. He re-developed the TESOL program and oversaw the accreditation of the programs for both the Vancouver and Toronto campuses.
His years of work with international students prepared him for 2010, when he joined the UBC Midwifery as the Educational Programs Coordinator for the 2nd pilot of the Multi-jurisdictional Midwifery Bridging Program which provided education and orientation to international midwives across the country to the standards and regulation of midwifery practice in Canada. At the completion of this contract, Blake took on the role of Student Services Manager, a new position that was established to support the core Midwifery program as it started its initial expansion in 2011. Blake’s work over the next decade continued to support the changing landscape of Midwifery education and provided support for both perspective and enrolled students as they attempt to navigate this intensive professional education. His portfolio continued to expand with the introduction of the Internationally Educated Midwives Bridging Program (IEMBP) to UBC Midwifery in 2015. He established information sessions which he brought to communities across the province, and abroad for the IEMBP, and worked with the amazing team at UBC Midwifery as they continued to expand and provide the best possible educational experience for students.
In 2023, Blake accepted the role of Senior Administrative Business Manager where he continues to support the growth of both students, faculty and staff and oversee the operations of the Midwifery program in collaboration with the senior leadership team. When not at work, Blake spends his time travelling with his husband and enjoying time with family and friends.
