UBC Midwifery Director, Cecilia Jevitt was the invited keynote speaker at a virtual international midwifery conference hosted by the Universitas Sebelas Maret in Surukarta, Indonesia.
Dr. Jevitt presented on providing women’s health, specifically perinatal care, during the COVID pandemic to more than 270 attendees. Indonesia has approximately 250,000 midwives registered with the midwives association and more than 700 schools of midwifery.

Michelle is a PhD student in Interdisciplinary Studies at UBC and a Midwifery Clinical Instructor who will design and test a drama-based childbirth education program for grade 4 students to discover if and how it can increase understandings and reduce fears of birth, with the objective of improving health outcomes for women and newborns by

In December 2023, UNESCO inscribed “Midwifery: knowledge, skills and practices” onto its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This recognition underscores the universal significance of midwifery across diverse cultures.
