UBC Midwifery Director, Dr. Cecilia Jevitt was an invited guest lecturer for the Midwifery Education Program at Stikes Abdi Nusantara University in Jakarta, Indonesia, on March 25, 2022
The Indonesian midwives asked her to describe midwifery in Canada, continuity of care and family involvement in maternity care. Approximately 1,500 midwives across Indonesia participated in the webinar via Zoom or the YouTube livestream. In December 2023, UNESCO inscribed “Midwifery: knowledge, skills and practices” onto its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This recognition underscores the universal significance of midwifery across diverse cultures.
