In April 2016, I graduated from the University of British Colombia with a Bachelor of Midwifery degree. I have worked in different community and hospital settings here in BC as both a Registered Midwife and a midwifery student. As a midwifery student, I traveled to Uganda with Dr. Cathy Ellis and worked at Mbale Hospital.
I have always had a strong passion to serve immigrant families and loved to learn about cultural differences. After graduation, I started to work at On the Drive Midwives in 2016 for one year to fulfill the CMBC guidelines as a new grad. I started a midwifery clinic at House of Omeed, a non-profit organization, in 2017 and started to serve immigrants and lower socioeconomic status families. I then started the first midwifery clinic in the City of Burnaby called Burnaby Midwifery Care. The clinic started to be a great success, and I started to have lots of referrals from public health nurses and family physicians. I was chosen as the Midwife of the Month by BC Midwives Association in January of 2018 for the exceptional services that I provided to immigrant and lower socioeconomic status families.
I have been working with UBC as a Clinical Instructor, mentoring 2nd and 3rd year students and also students from the Internationally Educated Midwives Bridging Program (IEMBP). I had the privilege of teaching physical exam to midwifery students at UBC with Dr. Cathy Ellis & Dr. Luba Butska.
I also have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and have been working as a Registered Nurse with Vancouver Coastal Health Authority at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver. In addition, I worked as an employed student nurse on the postpartum unit at Burnaby Hospital for two years (2009-2011). I obtained my perinatal nursing certificate from BCIT, and was working on the maternity floor at Lions Gate Hospital from 2014 to 2016.
