Congratulations to Our Fall Graduates: Sage Thomas and Elise Everard

The UBC Midwifery Program is proud to celebrate two outstanding graduates this fall: Elise Everard (she/her) and Sage Thomas (she/her).

Elise Everard, also graduating from her fourth year, has provided care in Kelowna, Port Coquitlam, New Westminster, Abbotsford, and Chilliwack, gaining rich experience across urban and community settings. As a research assistant with UBC’s Birth Place Lab, she contributed to vital work focused on equity, respect, autonomy, and reducing obstetric violence in Canadian maternity care. With an academic foundation in Biomedical Studies and First Nations Studies from UNBC, Elise approaches midwifery with a commitment to both evidence-informed practice and reproductive justice. Now based in Victoria, she is grateful for the families and clinicians who have guided her learning and looks forward to serving her new community with openness and respect.

Sage Thomas, a member of Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc, completes her fourth year while raising three children, ages 2 to 14. Drawing from her background in Fine Arts, Anthropology, Sociology, and Indigenous youth work, Sage brings deep creativity, cultural knowledge, and community advocacy to her practice. Inspired by the care she received during her first pregnancy, she trained as a birth and postpartum doula and lactation educator before pursuing midwifery. Sage looks forward to continuing to support families in her home territory of Tk’emlúps (Kamloops) with compassion and cultural humility.

Please join us in congratulating Sage and Elise on this significant milestone. Their leadership, compassion, and dedication enrich our program and strengthen midwifery care across British Columbia.
