Congratulations to Dr. Saraswathi Vedam on the acceptance of her thesis “Moving from Interprofessional Disarticulation to Transformative Dialogue and Action…”

Congratulations to Dr. Saraswathi Vedam on the acceptance of her thesis “Moving from Interprofessional Disarticulation to Transformative Dialogue and Action: Examining a Transdisciplinary Process to Address Equitable Access to High Quality Maternity Care in North America” by the University of Sydney, Australia, toward the award of her Doctorate in Philosophy. The thesis brought together the results of four published original research studies using a range of methodologies. These are the Canadian Birth Place Study, The Changing Childbirth in British Colombia (BC) Study, Giving Voice to Mothers Studies, and four new person-cantered measures of experience of maternity care. In the Access and Integration Maternity Care Mapping Study, a Delphi study created a scoring system (MISS) to assess midwifery integration and key maternal-newborn outcomes. These studies were completed by the UBC Birth Place Lab which is led by Dr. Vedam. Dr. Vedam’s leadership of the Birth Place Lab team has produced research that brings midwifery to the forefront of improving care during birth.
