The UBC Midwifery Program in the Department of Family Practice at the University of British Columbia invites applications for the position of Lead, Clinical Faculty and Placement Support.
The Midwifery Program enrolls twenty students each year in a four-year program leading to the degree of Bachelor of Midwifery (BMw). The program has a total student complement of 80. The program is delivered by academic and clinical faculty. The students spend three years (7 terms) in clinical placements, with oversight by preceptors in midwifery practices. As well, a bridging program for Internationally Educated Midwives (IEMBP) is offered, with an annual student intake of 8–10 students.
This part-time (0.50 FTE) position is primarily responsible for coordinating the placement of over 70 students each year in practices throughout BC. It is the key liaison between UBC and clinical preceptors, supporting preceptors and students in their placements by responding to student and preceptor concerns, and liaising with the course instructors/tutors as required. The position provides oversight of the student experience in clinical placements, recruits new preceptors, provides preceptor training via workshops and other media, and participates in the appointment and promotions process for clinical faculty.
The position holder reports to the Director of the Midwifery Program, and works collaboratively with staff and faculty in the program. The successful candidate will have a background in midwifery in Canada and experience working with clinical faculty and midwifery preceptors. A Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred. Registration as a midwife in BC would be an asset, along with working experience in educational programming and at an institution of post-secondary education.
