The Elaine Carty Visiting Scholars Initiative
The Elaine Carty Visiting Scholars Initiative is named after one of the early advocates of midwifery regulation in BC, and the founding Director of the UBC Midwifery Program. It honours Elaine Carty’s landmark contributions to women’s health and childbearing.
The program welcomes established clinicians and scholars from around the world working on research, education, training, or practice in midwifery and childbirth. The visiting scholars meet with students, deliver a faculty seminar, and present a public lecture.
The demand for midwifery care continues to grow across the province and the country. The visionary work of UBC’s Midwifery Program is enriched by visiting scholars who are developing and sharing innovative research, clinical models, and perspectives on midwifery and childbirth.
